Pharmacological action Oxybutynin Chloride
Oxybutynin Chloride M-holinoblokator group of tertiary amines. Along with moderate m-anticholinergic activity has the ability to directly affect the smooth muscles of internal organs (myotropic spasmolytic action). Eliminates spasms and lowers the tone of smooth muscles of internal organs: gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, uterus, urinary tract, including the bladder. When neurogenic bladder detrusor oxybutynin bladder relaxes, reduces the spontaneous reduction of the detrusor muscle, increases the capacity of the bladder, reduces the frequency of urination.
Statement Oxybutynin Chloride
Urinary incontinence due to bladder instability, neurogenic nature (detrusor hyperreflexia, such as multiple sclerosis or spina bifida) or idiopathic nature, nocturnal enuresis in children older than 5 years (as monotherapy or in combination with other drugs).
Dosage and administration Oxybutynin Chloride
Is the inside. Adults – 5 mg 2-3 (rarely 4) times / day. In elderly patients at the beginning of treatment used by 2.5-3 mg 2 times / day, then if necessary, gradually increase the dose to 5 mg 2 times / day.
Children older than 5 years – the initial dose of 2.5-3 mg 2 times / day, if necessary, gradually increase the dose to 5 mg 2-3 times / day. If nocturnal enuresis last dose should be taken immediately before bedtime.
Side effect Oxybutynin Chloride
Part of the digestive system: dry mouth, nausea, constipation, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea.
Central nervous system: possible headache, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision.
Dermatologic reactions: possible dryness of the skin.
Other: possible tides (mostly children), difficulty urinating, urinary retention, cardiac arrhythmias.
Contraindications Oxybutynin Chloride
Violation of the outflow of urine from the bladder when possible precipitation of persistent incontinence ileus, intestinal atony, severe ulcerative colitis, the expansion of the colon, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, lactation (breastfeeding), children under 5 years, hypersensitivity to oxybutynin.
Pregnancy and breast feeding Oxybutynin Chloride
In pregnancy, oxybutynin is used only on strict indications, when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
Oxybutynin is contraindicated during lactation (breastfeeding).
Cautions Oxybutynin Chloride
Used with caution in elderly patients with NCD, hepatic dysfunction or renal disease, hyperthyroidism, cardiac arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, primary manifestations of benign prostatic hyperplasia, NUC, in patients with ileostomy, colostomy, hernia and esophageal aperture, accompanied by reflux esophagitis.
Effects on ability to drive and control mechanisms
Used with caution in patients whose work requires your full attention, psychomotor speed reactions.
Drug Interactions Oxybutynin Chloride
While the use of drugs, anticholinergic effects, it may be increased.
With simultaneous use of itraconazole increases the concentration of oxybutynin in plasma.
